How should I prepare before starting my lessons?

Reading the highway code is essential before starting lessons. You don’t have to have read it all the way through but its best to have made a start. Other books recommended are..Driving : the essential skills and the official driving test, both available at book shops and written by the DSA.

Payment?

Payment can be made by cash, cheque or Paypal from this website (available shortly).

Should I go out driving with my parents first?

It’s best not to. The driving test is very specific, and it can take a long time to “teach out” wrongly taught habits. The way you were taught first tends to be the way you remember, so if its wrong…..!

Can I take my test in my own car?

Yes, but why? You may as well take your test in the car you’ve been taught in!!

Which test centre is best for me to take my test?

It is best to take your test in the area that you have been learning in, as you will be more familiar to the roads and potentially have fewer surprises. Having said that, routes vary in individual centres , so you won’t be taught specific routes.

Can you book my test for me?

Yes, the DSA now has a system in place that allows instructors to book for their pupils, it also allows the pupil to book in a way which is helpful to both instructor and pupil.

What car do you use?

Nissan Micra: A Manual Se 1.4 Dci. The Micra often comes out as one of the top cars in their group in car magazines. They are very comfortable to learn in as well as being very forgiving, which is important to a learner !!!

What is your pass rate?

Pass rates are very ambiguous, even the best prepared pupil may be thrown by something that happens on the day. I prefer to build up a relationship with the student to have them prepared to the best of their potential.

What do you need to take with you?

You must take with you: Your Provisional Driving Licence, Your test appointment card and photo ID (In addition to the photo driving licence, i.e.. Passport).

What happens at the test centre?

We will wait in the test centre waiting room until the examiner calls you. He will ask you to confirm the details on your driving licence are correct, check your ID and ask you to sign your test paper for insurance purposes. After this you will have your eye test (reading a car registration number) and he will then ask you 2 or 3 "Show me Tell me" questions. Once these have been completed, your practical driving test will commence. It will last for 40 minutes and end with you parking at the test centre.

What happens if one of the Instructors cars breaks down?

We have a spare, identical car, for such situations.
